indication

The medicine contains the active substance letrozole and belongs to a group of medicines called aromatase inhibitors. The drug is a hormonal (or "endocrine") treatment for breast cancer.
What is the medicine used for?
The medicine is used to prevent breast cancer from coming back. It can be used either as the first treatment after breast surgery or after five years of treatment with the drug tamoxifen. The medicine is also used to stop breast cancer from spreading to other parts of the body in patients with advanced disease.
The drug should only be used:
in estrogen and/or progesterone receptor positive breast cancer and
only in women after the menopause (after the menopause, i.e. after the menstrual periods have stopped for good).
    How does the medicine work?
The growth of breast cancer is often stimulated by estrogens (female sex hormones). The medicine reduces the amount of estrogen by blocking an enzyme involved in the production of estrogen (the "aromatase") and can thus block the growth of breast cancer, which needs estrogen for its growth. As a result, tumor cells stop growing or grow more slowly and/or spread of the tumor cells to other parts of the body is prevented or slowed down.
    monitoring of your treatment
You should only use this medicine under close medical supervision. Your doctor will examine you regularly to check that the treatment is having the desired effect.
The medicine can cause thinning or weakening of your bones (osteoporosis) by reducing the amount of estrogen in your body. Therefore, your doctor may measure your bone density (a way of checking for osteoporosis) before, during and after treatment.
If you have any questions about how the medicine works or why this medicine has been prescribed for you, please ask your doctor.

dosage

Always take the medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
    dosage
The usual dose is one tablet once a day. It will be easier for you to remember to take the tablet if you take the medicine at the same time each day.

How long does the medicine have to be taken?
Continue daily intake for as long as your doctor tells you to. You may have to take the medicine for months or even years. If you have any questions about how long to take the medicine, talk to your doctor.

If you take more of the medicine than you should
If you take too much, or if someone else accidentally takes your tablets, contact your doctor or hospital straight away and ask for advice. Present your pack of tablets to them. Medical treatment may be required.

If you forget to take a dose
If it is almost time for your next pill (i.e. in 2 or 3 hours), skip the missed dose and take the next pill when it is due.
Otherwise, take the missed pill as soon as you remember and take the next pill at the normal time.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

    If you stop taking it
Don't stop taking it unless your doctor tells you to.

way

The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water or other liquid.

side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. Most side effects are mild to moderate and generally disappear after a few days to weeks of treatment. Some of the side effects such as hot flashes, hair loss or vaginal bleeding may be due to a lack of estrogen in your body. Do not be alarmed by the list of possible side effects below. You may not experience any of these side effects. Some side effects could be serious. These side effects occur rarely or occasionally, i. H. they can affect between 1 and 100 in 10,000 patients.
If you experience weakness, paralysis or loss of feeling in an arm or leg or any other area
